Students new to the Florence-Darlington Technical College (FDTC)’s S-STEM (Scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Tech Stars Scholarship program participated this Spring (February 2023) our scholarship orientation and also had the opportunity to meet with regional industry representatives.
The Tech Star Scholarship Program is funded by a S-STEM (Scholarships — Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to Florence-Darlington Technical College for implementation by the South Carolina Advanced Technological Education (SCATE) Center of Excellence.
NSF's National Science Board published, THE SKILLED TECHNICAL WORKFORCE: Crafting America’s....report to present their research findings from their 18-month identification effort of the opportunities and challenges facing students, incumbent workers, businesses, educators, and others involved with the Skilled Technical Workforce (STW). FDTC, SiMT, and SCATE were among some of the stakeholders featured.
The SCATE Center and Mentor-Connect: A Leadership Development & Outreach Initiative for ATE at Florence Darlington Technical College received a $107,000 NSF ATE sub-award grant, in partnership Westchester Community College (NY) and Arizona State University.
The Pee Dee Scholars scholarships target students studying for an Associate in Science degree. This unique scholarship includes payment of tuition, books fees and supplies that wiill help students stay on track and complete their degree. Scholarship will also assist with transfer to and tuition coverage when you transfer to Coker University.

Students new to the Florence-Darlington Technical College (FDTC)’s S-STEM (Scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Pee Dee Scholars program participated this Spring (March 2023) in a more in-depth orientation. The project supported by a National Science Foundation (NSF) grant, Pee Dee Scholars allows FDTC to provide at least eight scholarships annually to financially needy, academically talented students through the Pee Dee Scholars scholarship program. The scholarship includes support for tuition, books, fees and supplies. The scholars also receive a “loan to own” Z Space 3D laptop and MI-FI wireless device supported by the scholarship. Pee Dee scholars in the cohort at FDTC and that transfer to Coker University(CU) , CU commits to support the PDS transfers with continuing scholarships from both the S-STEM grant and from institutional funds for additional two years or until graduation.
